Navigating Complex Disputes with Clarity and Precision
Our Shipping Law practice delivers strategic, technical, and contractual advice and dispute-resolution services for shipowners, charterers, cargo interests, insurers and operators. Whether the issue is cargo damage, shipbuilding, or claims under bills of lading, we bring the benefit of deep experience in international arbitration, litigation and expertly navigating technically complex cases.
The team has experience of international arbitration and litigation, including disputes involving contracts governed by foreign law and matters requiring detailed consideration of technical evidence. Where a dispute overlaps with construction, engineering or wider commercial issues, we are able to draw on the firm’s broader contentious experience to provide coordinated advice.
Previous matters include an arbitration concerning the breach of contract under Italian law for construction of a super yacht; advising in regards to failure to construct a super yacht to the high standards of the contract; recovery of a yacht subject to a lien; involvement in claims relating to the conversion of a vessel to a FPSO; and freight claims such as the condition of fruit shipped from Latin America to Dubai, and liability according to the bill of lading.
We recognise that shipping disputes can affect valuable assets, commercial relationships and ongoing operations. We therefore aim to provide clear and focused advice from an early stage, whether the immediate priority is preserving a position, pursuing or defending a claim, or exploring a commercial resolution.
